FILE INFO | Caption | Nanda Maharaja, the king of the cowherds, observed the prescribed fast on the Ekadasi day. Then he considered how to properly break his fast. By some circumstance only a few minutes remained in the day, and he decided to take his bath in the dark of night. Because Nanda Maharaja entered the water at an inauspicious time, a demoniac servant of Varuna, the demigod of the ocean, seized him and brought him to his master. In the early morning the cowherd men searched for Nanda, but Krishna immediately understood what had happened. Thus He went to the court of Varuna. Upon seeing Krishna, Varuna was jubilant and he worshiped the Lord with elaborate offerings. Then Sri Varuna said: Now my body has fulfilled its function. Indeed, now the goal of my life is achieved, O Lord. Those who accept Your lotus feet, O Personality of Godhead, can transcend the path of material existence. My obeisances unto You, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Absolute Truth, the Supreme Soul, within whom there is no trace of the illusory energy, which orchestrates the creation of this world. Your father, who is sitting here, was brought to me by a foolish, ignorant servant of mine, who did not understand his proper duty. Therefore, please forgive us." -Excerpt from Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.28.5-7 | Headline | Krishna Rescues Nanda Maharaja from the Abode of Varuna | Copyright Notice | © Copyright The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International, Inc.
