FILE INFO
CaptionWhen Shiva heard that his wife Sati was now dead as a result of the insults of Daksha, he was extremely angry. He pulled a hair from his head and dashed it to the ground. From this a fearful black demon was created. The demon Virabhadra's hair was like burning fire; he had many arms and wore a garland of the heads of men. The demon said to Shiva, "What shall I do, my Lord?" Lord Shiva instructed him to kill Daksha and all the soldiers at the sacrifice. At that time there was a dust storm caused by the assistants of Shiva and the atmosphere became very dark. Virabhadra, along with the soldiers of Shiva created a great disturbance at the sacrificial arena. Finally, Virabhadra captured Daksha and tried to separate his head from his body but was unsuccessful. Trying different weapons and hymns, he became increasingly bewildered as to why he couldn't cut Daksha. Then he saw the wooden device that was used to kill animals in the sacrifice. With this Virabhadra successfully beheaded Daksha and the party of Shiva cried out with joy.
