FILE INFO | Caption | Sometimes Krishna was joking with Rukmini-devi, “My dear Rukmini-devi, raja-kanya, you are the daughter of a king, and it would have been better if you could have married Shishupala [a demoniac king]. I am simply a cowherd boy.” Hearing these words from her beloved, she became frightened. In great anxiety she began to cry, and looked downward. Overwhelmed with unhappiness and fear she suddenly fainted. Seeing that Rukmini could not understand the full meaning of His teasing, Lord Krishna felt compassion and He quickly got down from the bed and picked her up. Krishna wiped her tears and consoled her until she was fully pacified and could understand that His words had been spoken in jest.
