FILE INFO
CaptionSukracharya understood that Vamanadeva was actually Vishnu and he advised Bali Maharaja to not fulfill the promise of three steps of land. Bali Maharaja, however, was a devotee, and he saw the arguments of his guru as a hindrance to devotional service. Bali Maharaja did not fear the results of giving everything to the Supreme Lord. When he told Sukracharya that he could not go back on a promise made to a brahmana, Sukracharya cursed him, saying "Because of disobeying me, you shall very soon be bereft of all your opulence."
-Srimad Bhagavatam, 8.20.15
